We are ramping up for the 2013 Christmas Elf Campaign! Christmas Elf was started in 1987 by Roxanne Allexenberg to help local Cayuga County families in need provide Christmas gifts for their children. Roxanne was a correspondent for the Citizen. She moved to Auburn from St. Louis, where they ran a similar program. In its first year, Christmas Elf - through a group of volunteers from several community service agencies - raised $7,000 in cash, $6,000 in toys and served 180 families.

Today, Christmas Elf raises approximately $27,000 in cash, $15,000 in toys and serves approximately 700 families including 1600 children in Cayuga County. Families must be referred to the Elf by a community service agency or a staff member at the school their children are attending. The Elf Campaign is comprised of several volunteers including campaign coordinators Diane Currier and Carolyn Moore, administrative staff support from Cayuga Seneca Community Action Agency and multiple community partners. CSCAA handles application intake and verification and manages all finances for the Elf. Currier Plastics donates the boxes for packing the gifts and the warehouse space for storing and organization of the gifts. Auburn Party Rental donates tables and Finger Lakes Business Services donates a phone line for the Elf.

The Christmas Elf Campaign committee is in the process of securing 2013 partners and volunteers, establishing drop off sites for toys, finalizing the agency referral form, setting up distribution days, and developing a marketing strategy for this year's campaign. Be on the lookout for more information about how YOU can support Christmas Elf this year! If you would like to make a monetary donation to Christmas Elf via mail, please send your contribution to Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency, Inc., c/o Christmas Elf, 65 State Street, Auburn NY 13021.
